30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge January 2017: Day 1

Happy New Year! The 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge is a good challenge and a great way to start off the year, so I am participating again this January. Follow my blog, my Facebook page, and/or my Art Studio Facebook page to see each day’s painting! Fellow artist Leslie Saeta is hosting the challenge on her website and has a map with all the participating artists’ locations so it should be fun to be painting along with many other artists around the globe!

This year I plan on painting six series, with each series of 5 paintings having the same subject matter. Today’s painting is my first cow painting, so being Scottish, of course I chose a Highland cow!  Actually, to my delight, there are quite a number of Highland cows and bulls in Southern Ontario, and I have had the chance to take a number of reference photos in the past few years. Since the painting is wet, there is a little glare and the snow looks a little “bluer” than the actually painting, but I will post a better picture tomorrow.
