Our First Virtual Paint Your Pet Workshop!

tawny-cat-painting-malowanySo is everyone sick of COVID interfering with celebrations, getting together with friends, enjoying a night out, workshops or entertainment? We haven’t had Paint Parties or Paint Your Pet events in ages, so we’re going to have our first Virtual Paint Your Pet Workshop on Sunday, November 21st!

So how is going to work? We’ll be hosting it on Zoom.  During the virtual workshop, Wendy will walk you through the painting demonstrating and giving directions step-by-step, but allowing you to add your own creativity too. You can ask questions on the zoom chat!  If you like, you can even have your own Paint Your Pet Party at home with family members by connecting your computer to your television or large computer screen.

You’ll need to send Artist/Instructor, Wendy Malowany your photos via email and she’ll make a light rough sketch of the composition and get eye placement and proportion drawn on your canvas. You’ll need to pick up your canvas prior to the event (or pay for shipping), and can either purchase and pick up a paint kit or use your own supplies (Wendy can provide a materials list).  You’ll be emailed the Zoom link prior to the event so you can attend Live, and will be given access to the studio Facebook group where the recording will be up for one week, so you can watch the recording if you can’t make the Live event or rewatch if you want to review directions.

albert-old-english-sheepdog-painting-malowanyTicket price options are:

$15 – for Zoom event link and Facebook group access
$30 – 14×14″ canvas with Pet portrait sketch & photo referenced printed
$5 – paint kit, containers of paint, paper plate palette, cardboard easel
$8 – paintbrush kit (can be rented and returned for a refund after the event)

About the Paint Your Pet Events:

Wendy has been doing Paint Your Pet fundraisers for a number of years now and has helped many local animal welfare organizations, such as Welland Humane Society, B.A.R.K., Beamsville 4Paw Rescue, Lincoln County Humane Society, Dreamers Dog Sanctuary, Black Goat Farm & Sanctuary, and more!

We have quite a number of rescue animals on our 8-acre property. We have a potbelly pig, a Nubian goat, dog, cats, horses, our chicken retirement home, geese, feral spayed/neutered cats, a turkey, rabbits, and other wildlife that find refuge on the property, so 50% of the ticket price will be going to caring for the animals.

Pet Portrait photo requirements:
Send several photos via email that have a good range of lights and darks. Choose clear photos that show your pet’s eyes and expressions you like which capture his/her personality. Close up headshots at your pet’s eye level are better than taking the photo looking down at your pet, and not so close that noses appear bigger than they are. A little background around pet is fine as I will crop to the proportions of the canvas, but the pet should take up approx. 3/4’s of the photo. High resolution of 300 dpi is good, but if you aren’t sure, email the photos and we’ll let you know if the resolution is good.  Send your photos right after you register and purchase your ticket by replying to the confirmation email or email to:  wendy [at] wendymalowany.com.  Remember to include name of person who purchased the tickets, the event date.  Contact Wendy with questions.

Tickets Must be Purchased In Advance to give Wendy time to crop, edit and print your reference photos, draw your sketch on your canvas, and give you time to pick it up before the event.  Get your tickets now since we expect the event to sell out fast!

30 Paintings in 30 Days January 2017 – Day 8 & 9

Monday and Tuesday I was leading two of my Paint Parties, so I was still painting and am counting those days in my 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge since not only was I painting those days, but leading groups of people to create their paintings too! I may put up an auction of my Paint Party paintings soon, so follow my posts and facebook pages, if you are interested.

beneath-the-coconut-treeMonday night we had a great time at Mokus Restaurant in Fonthill. Mokus is a fantastic Hawaiian restaurant, so all of the paintings I am creating and leading have a Hawaiian theme too.  Monday’s painting was “Beneath the Coconut Tree”.  Everyone had a great time!  Mokus has a great variety of Hawaiian foods to appeal to everyone and has tropical drink specials on the night of our Paint Parties. They play Hawaiian music and with the power of the internet, even broadcast a Hawaiian radio station in the restaurant.

I always take pictures as we progress and post them on my Art Studio Facebook photo albums.sunbathing-sea-turtle

If you live near the Pelham/Welland area, our next Paint Party at Mokus is on Monday Feb. 6 and we’ll be painting “Sunbathing Sea Turtle”.  Tickets can be purchased on the Paint Party’s event page of my website, but are selling fast so get them soon so you are not disappointed!

italian-vistaLast night I was leading my Paint Party at Julia’s Bistro and Catering in Dunnville, ON.  So I moved from the Hawaiian theme to an Italian theme.  Julia’s offers great Italian food, as well as more Canadian fare, like her top-rated hamburger, which will be featured on the “Burger Wars”.  They are coming to her restaurant to film on Jan. 28 and 29.

Last night our painting was “Italian Vista”.  This painting is fun because there is a lot of room for variation in colour mixing, what is included, or left out.  It does have more steps than a lot of my paintings, but everyone did great and had a fun time!  Sorry that two of our guests had to miss the fun due to illness, but I’ll look forward to seeing them at the next event.italian-vineyard

We’ll be painting “Italian Vineyard” on Tuesday Feb. 7 so if you live near the Dunnville, ON area, or are visiting, get your tickets on my website on the Paint Party’s event page and join in on the fun! The great thing about my Paint Parties is you don’t need any experience.  I walk everyone through step-by-step, but all the paintings are different in the way people mix colours, create brushstrokes, or add their own creativity.

Art Workshop

Last Friday I taught an art class for our homeshooling co-op.  We looked at the artwork of John James Audubon, Vincent Van Gogh and Robert Bateman, under the theme of “Nature”.  The contrast between stylized, realistic and expressive color and brush strokes was interesting. The ages ranged from about 4 to 12 and the kids were very attentive.

I did a demonstration of using oil pastels and watercolor, using an owl for my subject matter.  Actually, I kind of like how it came out so far, and will either work some more and complete it, or use it as a study for a larger finished work.

I gave them the option of using watercolor, oil pastel or both.  They seemed to like the effect of watercolor over oil pastel, even those who choice to just use watercolor.  I’ll be scanning some student work and putting it up soon.
