Day 6: Pine Trees at Sunset

So for Day 6 of my 30 paintings in 30 days challenge, I created a Paint Party painting, “Pine Trees at Sunset”, inspired by Tom Thomson.  I saw a great exhibit of Tom Thomson and the Group of Seven at McMichael Art Gallery several years ago, and love the freshness, immediacy and vibrant colours of their work.  With today’s frigid temperatures again, I needed to paint something warm and vibrant. This will be a fun Paint Party painting, especially for admirers of Tom Thomson and the Group of Seven.

Jan. Daily Paintings Day 26: “Tickly Bob”

My Day 26 painting for the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge is “Tickly Bob”. We have a lot of little chipmunk friends here on our hobby farm: under the barn, studio and near the well.  But we like to think that the recent ones are Tickly Bob’s descendents.  Our son heard something in the downspout from our eave troughs, so got on some gloves on and got the little fellow out and into a container.  He tickled as he came out, so he named him Tickly Bob and thought he needed to be taken care of. I assured him the young fellow was fine and we took the container over to the large wood pile.  When the container was opened, he took a flying leap and happily took refuge in our wood shed.

Jan. Daily Painting Day 12: “Kersty”

My Day 12 painting for the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge is “Kersty”. Kersty is one of our three studio cats. She and her sisters were rescue kittens from Ker Church, a location in which Wendy was commissioned to create artwork for the Niagara HERE project.  She was named after the church. She is shy with art students, but usually comes out to see what is going on once everyone is settled into work.  She is the first to hop onto Wendy’s lap in the studio, if she has the chance.

Jan. Daily Painting Day 7: Highland Cow

My Day 7 painting for the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge is “Highland Cow”. This is one of the Highland cows I came across in West Lincoln about 20 minutes from our farm.  I was excited to see a small herd of highland cattle here in Ontario, Canada.  I introduced myself to the owner and his little daughter and asked if I could take reference photos of his cows, explaining that I was an artist and Scottish, so had a special affinity to highland cattle.  He agreed and even stopped by in his van on his way out to see how I was making out, driving off when he saw me in the pasture getting along with my new friends. Highland Calf and Highland Moo, are two paintings I completed last year of two other highland cows in this small herd.
