March 2019 Photo Contest: Cats

gabby-cat-painting-malowanyJanuary I held a photo contest, with the theme of dogs, and it was great to see all the photos, and very difficult to judge! Last month’s theme was Winter, and for March the theme is Cats, so post your best photos!  You need to post your photos on my original Facebook post or Artist Facebook page.  I realized in January some people posted photos on a shared post in a group instead of the original post or my Artist Facebook page, and I missed some photos! Make sure you read the photo requirements here, then use the link to my Artist Facebook page to “like” and “share”.

The winner will get one free 6″x6″ original painting, or can upgrade to a larger size!  Photos must be your own, or taken by a family member giving permission to post the photo and allowing me to use as a painting reference.

Here are the photo requirements:

Photo of one cat per photo should be a close up. A little background around the cat is fine, but he/she should take up approx.  3/4’s of the photo.  Photo should have a good range of lights and darks, show the cat’s eyes/expression and capturing his/her personality.

If you know other people who would like to participate in the contest and have a chance at winning an original painting, please like and share this post and  my Artist Facebook page and the original post for the contest!

January Photo Contest Winner: Sadie

For the month of January I held a photo contest. Since January is my dog’s birthday month, the theme for January was Dogs!  Everyone posted their dog photos on my Facebook post, and I  had the daunting task of picking the winner.  I had no idea how hard picking winners for this photo contest would be!  Thank you to all who entered the contest – your dogs are all beautiful!  If your dog didn’t make the “winners”, “finalists” or “contenders” list, it is no reflection on your dog, but could be the clarity of the photo, or even the format.

The winner was Sadie, and her owner wins this  original  6″x6″painting!

“Sadie”, 6″x6″, acrylic on canvas

Sadie’s owner shared her story with me:

Sadie came into our lives ten years ago as our first family dog. She is smart, energetic, happy and a tad bit stubborn! She is full of personality and always keeps us on our toes. Her friendly nature brings a smile to everyone she meets. You could say she is an all-season dog as she loves playing in the snow in the winter just as much as she loves swimming or being outside in the summer. She will be ten years old this year, but she is still a playful puppy at heart! – Kait B.

Congratulations Kait!  And for those who didn’t win this time, follow my blog and  Artist facebook page for more contests and a chance to win.

February 2019 Photo Contest: Winter

January I held a photo contest, with the theme of dogs, and it was great to see all the photos, and very difficult to judge! This month the theme will be Winter, so post either a Winter Animal or Winter Landscape photo.  You need to post your photos on my original Facebook post.  I realized in January some people posted photos on a shared post instead of the original post, and I missed some photos! Make sure you read the photo requirements here, then use the link to my Artist Facebook page to “like” and “share”.

The winner will get one free 6″x6″ or 5″x7″ original painting!  Photos must be your own, or taken by a family member giving permission to post the photo and allowing me to use as a painting reference.

Here are the photo requirements:

Photos of winter animal should be a close up of the animal. A little background around the animal is fine, but the animal should take up approx. 1/2 to 3/4’s of the photo..  Photo should have a good range of lights and darks, show the animal’s eyes/expression and capturing his/her personality.

Winter Landscapes should have a good range of lights and darks and have an interesting composition. Winter is my least favourite season, so the challenge is to make winter appeal to me and make me want to paint it!

If you know other people who would like to participate in the contest and have a chance at winning an original painting, please like and share this post and  my Artist Facebook page and the original post for the contest!

January 2019 Photo Contest: Dogs – The Results

If you missed my prior post, for the month of January I held a photo contest. The theme for January was Dogs, since January is my dog’s birthday month!  Everyone posted their dog photos on my Facebook post, and I have had the daunting task of picking the winner.  I had no idea how hard picking winners for this photo contest would be!  Thank you to all who entered the contest – your dogs are all beautiful!  If your dog didn’t make the “winners”, “finalists” or “contenders” list, it is no reflection on your dog, but could be the clarity of the photo, or even the format, since the winner gets a free 6″x6″ original painting, and some photos didn’t crop well to a square format.  Keep in mind the photo requirements:

Photo should be a close up of the face, at the dog’s eye level, not looking down at your dog, but not so close that the nose appear bigger than it is.  Photo should have a good range of lights and darks, show the dog’s eyes and expressions and capturing his/her personality.  A little background around pet is fine, but the pet should take up approx. 3/4’s of the photo.

So I saved all submitted dog photos to a folder as they were posted, then after the deadline, Jan. 31st, I went through and chose “contenders”, then “finalists” and finally the top three.  So the winners are……

First Place – Sadie

1st Place Winner receives a free 6″x6″ original painting on canvas, or the choice of upgrading to a larger size with the price of a 6″x6″ deducted from the larger sized price.

2nd Place – Harley

Third Place – Amber

Third Place – Tripp

2nd and tied 3rd Place may received 50% off a 6″x6″ original painting on canvas, or deduct that value for a larger size.

Finalists receive 20% off a 6″x6″ original painting on canvas, or deduct that value for a larger size.   And all local contenders may receive 10% off a Paint Your Pet event – just email me for a coupon code!

I will be posting photos of the winning painting, and any others as they are finished.

See all the entries, finalists and contenders on my Facebook Jan. Photo Contest Album.
